“Only if we are able to widen the lens to take in the bigger picture that includes both the outer challenges and the inner distress do we begin to sense that the protectors are in proportion to what is in need of shelter. It is our system's sense that moving the safeguard aside and allowing the implicit to emerge would be more harmful than whatever the protector is doing in this moment.”
― Bonnie Badenoch

Perspective
To allow ourselves to be seen as we truly are—to be raw and vulnerable—can be terrifying for many people. Especially if you have done so in the past and experienced rejection, abandonment, or some of other form of emotional pain. This is just one reason why therapy can be so difficult, and why I believe it’s so important to remember how courageous the process is while we’re in it.
Given the sensitivity of this work, it’s imperative that I create a safe and trusting space to help my patients embark on their unique journey. The trust we share is the foundation for our therapeutic relationship: a collaborative environment where you can receive support, validation, and encouragement as you do the challenging work to foster growth and healing.
Things can sometimes seem impossible, and yet when we’re are able to explore our sense of reality - beliefs, feelings, behaviors, and relationships - from a place of curiosity rather than judgment this can be transformative. I work from a patient-centered perspective in which I strive to empower my patients to uncover what facets of their life are impacting their experience of the world around them, to help them alleviate distress and suffering for a more fulfilling, joyful life.
